Care for your Chow puppy.
Chows Chows, also known as Chows, were bred to be all-around working dogs. They were used for hunting, herding, and guarding the Mongolian tribes in China. Because of the breed's stubborn and independent nature, a Chow puppy requires early socialization and training, but owners who take the proper steps find that life with a Chow puppy can be very rewarding.
Instructions
1. Vaccinate and worm your Chow puppy starting at nine weeks of age. This is when your puppy should have a visit to the veterinarian's office. Work with your vet to set up a schedule to ensure that your puppy stays healthy.
2. Feed your Chow puppy three times a day and continue this schedule until it is six months old. Its food needs to contain at least 21 percent protein along with vitamins and minerals.
3. Groom your puppy daily. A Chow's coat is very dense and soft; this causes it to tangle more easily. Because your puppy will shed until it gets its adult coat, keep it brushed. Bathe your puppy about once a week with a mild puppy shampoo. Overwashing a Chow can cause dry skin. Also trim your puppy's nails weekly.
4. Teach your puppy its name by always referring to him by the name. When it responds, offer a reward of petting, followed by "good boy" or "good girl."
5. Socialize your puppy by allowing him to gradually meet strangers. Approach your puppy from the front, because Chows have limited peripheral vision. Do not allow your puppy to display aggression toward people or other animals.
