Register a Dog With the USDAA
The United States Dog Agility Association is one of the most well-known dog agility organizations in existence. The USDAA has been registering dogs and hosting agility trials for the better part of 20 years. Any dog is eligible to compete in agility trials through UDSAA, and registering your dog for competition is a simple and easy process.
Instructions
1. Gather all the required information for your dog. You will need to know your dog’s breed (or breeds if she is a mix), birth date, height, weight, color and gender. This information will be recorded on her registration paperwork so it is vital to keep it handy.
2. Contact the USDAA to acquire a registration packet. If you would like, you can register your dog online through the USDAA site. You will need to have a credit card to register your dog online. If you choose not to register online, USDAA will mail you a paper packet.
3. Complete the registration packet as accurately as possible. Fill in all the requested information, including up to date information on yourself, as you will be listed as the owner of record.
4. Measure your dog’s height at the withers before filling in the height section. The withers are the top point of the dog’s shoulders, so measure them from the ground up. Document this height on the forms, as an accurate measurement of your dog is required to enter him in the right height category.
5. Choose the division that you want to register your dog in. USDAA offers two basic performance programs; the Performance division and the Championship division. Performance classes are geared more towards people who only dabble in agility for fun, while the Championship division is set more towards the serious sport competitor. Sign the forms and mail them in with the correct registration fees.
6. Review the paperwork and card and check them for any errors. Contact the USDAA if you notice any mistakes, as the temporary card must be presented at each trial you enter. Any mistakes can make showing in your trial difficult, so correcting them as soon as possible is best.
7. Check in with a certified judge at your first trial. Your dog will need to be measured by a number of certified judges, and the measurements documented and signed, before you can apply for your dog’s permanent registration card.
8. Send in the temporary card, and any required fees, in when it is complete. The USDAA will verify the card and issue you a permanent registration card. Keep your card on you at all times, and enjoy competing in agility trials with your newly USDAA registered dog.
